Top Tips: River Graze

With River Graze presented by Melbourne Water just around the corner, here are some *pro* tips on where and when to make the most of this wandering feast.

  • Spot the world’s largest floating fruit bowl
It won’t be hard to find! The spectacular floating fun will teach kids how Melbourne Water is the #secretingredient in everything we grow and eat. Get them all enthused about home-grown produce, then head to Little Foodies to learn more
  • A glass of wine in the sun
Did you know that Victoria has more wine producers than any other Australian wine-producing state? We’re gathering 30 of our favourites – fresh from 2017 vintage! From cool-climate Chardonnays in the south, sweet fortified in the north east, and rich Shiraz from the central plains. Experience all of Victoria in one spot.
  • For the sweeter inclined
Koko Black are bringing their full chocolate experience to Sweet Alley. Serving up Belgian hot and iced chocolates, a specially curated dessert tasting board, and a range of pralines, truffles and chocolates.
  • Only for the Festival
There are a few extra special delights that we just had to tell you about. Black Star Pastry, N2 and Hoy Pinoy are creating a one-off tiki cocktail bar at Culinary Village; There will be the grand unveiling of Juanita-on-Wheels at Food Truck stop serving up fried chicken to the masses; Rustica will be piping soft serve into their hot cross buns to get you in the Easter mood; and a very rare drop of Carménère is being opened by Humis Vineyard at City Cellar. Considered one of the six original varietals of Bordeaux, and almost became extinct in the 1860s from a Phylloxera plague.
  • Hands on kids fun
Little Foodies will be a space just for kids, where they can pick their own Victorian strawberries, get digging in the veggie patch, find out where milk comes from, and snack on some fruity delights as they toil the soil.
  • Be in to win
Snap a pic having some fun at the Festival using hashtag#mfwfwin and you could win dinner for two at Dinner by Heston.
  • Picture-perfect moments
There's Black Star Pastry’s insta-famous strawberry and watermelon cake at Culinary Village; not-so-fast-and-furious waiters races at Fed Square (1pm, 2.30pm, 5pm, and 7pm); family portraits in giant deck chairs; and twinkling lights on the floating fruit bowl in the evening. Plenty of moments to get snap happy and win. #mfwfwin
  • Sharpen up your cooking skills
Sink into a front-row bean bag at the Culinary Village and watch your favourite MasterChef stars whip up some magic on the start-of-the-art V-ZUG ovens (The Smooth FM angels will be giving out their recipes for free to take home); then get some expert pizza-making advice at Crown with Gradi’s Johnny Di Francesco himself (Sat/Sun 12.30pm & 3.30pm).
  • Head on holiday – without leaving town
Say bonjour to France in Federation Square. The River Terrace will be filled with gobble-on-the-spot fare, or do as the French do and linger over a glass at the outdoor bistro and indulge in a $100 truffle "haute" dog. Then head to Arbory to say hola to Spain, and enjoy a plate of cheese, jamón, and fish overlooking the river.

From Fed square to South Wharf, there’s something to please both big and little foodies alike. See you there!
